Mission

To coordinate assistance for landowners from all available resources – public and private, local, state and federal – in an effort to develop locally led solutions to natural resource concerns to include: Soil, Air, Water, Animals, and Plants.

To provide leadership, encourage wise resource decisions, set standards, encourage stewardship and education cooperators, agencies, land users, and youth to conserve, improve and sustain our natural resources and the environment.

A conservation district is a political subdivision of the state of Colorado governed by a board of supervisors elected at large from within the boundaries.  The boundaries were originally formed by landowners petitioning in to the district. They do not always follow county or watershed boundary lines. Each district holds regular, open meetings to direct the district’s business.  A conservation supervisor is responsible for local conservation programs, just as elected county officials are responsible for county services or school district boards are responsible for education.

The services this district offers are:

  • Conservation education materials to youth in the district
  • Natural resource conservation materials to landowners
  • Conservation equipment rental for district landowners
  • Scholarship for college or youth resource camp
  • Arbor Day participation at local grade schools

Management

The Board of Supervisors of the La Plata Conservation District (LPCD) are unpaid elected officials in service to our community. We are a board of 11 members. Additionally, LPCD works with a team of skilled volunteers. If you have an interest in serving in any capacity, please contact us.
