May 24, 2012--Mountain Village to limit water use (Telluride Daily Planet)

With a quickly diminishing snowpack in the region, the Town of Mountain Village has taken the precaution of setting limits on residential water usage. The restrictions will take effect June 1 and are precautionary, according to Mountain Village Public Works Director Finn Kjome. The restrictions will apply to residents north of Mountain Village Boulevard and Elk Run. All properties south of Mountain Village Boulevard, plus the Ski Ranches and Skyfield, may water landscaping on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Once the limits are in force, residents will be restricted to using water for landscaping on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for one hour a day either before 8 a.m. or after 7 p.m. “We’re just being proactive, there is no state restriction on the river at this point,” Kjome said. “Instead of waiting until there is a problem, we want to start cutting back and getting the plants used to less water, then get the roots will grow deeper and they’ll survive.”
