LPEA Receives USDA Grant
The La Plata Electric Association (LPEA) was awarded a $100,000 USDA-Rural Development Grant last fall to help members save energy and explore renewable energy options. The funds are designated to assist rural small businesses, specifically irrigators and water companies, with energy audits and renewable energy development.
Over the two-year grant period, LPEA will utilize the USDA grant funds to assist 1) water supply companies that provide potable water from groundwater wells and/or surface streams; 2) irrigation companies that offer farm, municipal and industrial water and agricultural irrigation systems, equipment and service; 3) ditch companies, privately-owned water stock companies charged with maintaining and operating an irrigation system for use by their membership; and 4) agricultural producers/rural small businesses, approximately 500 of which in LPEA’s service territory would quality under SBA standards to receive grant monies.
Those within the target audiences who are interested in exploring how the USDA grant funds might benefit their irrigation/water-related businesses, are at this time asked to visit the LPEA web site, www.lpea.coop and sign up on Constant Contact to receive email notification as the program for the grant unfolds, or call Sue Maxwell, 970.382.7170 to be included on the list of interested businesses.
