December 15, 2008--Aquifer panel planned (Pueblo Chieftain)

The state engineer's office plans to form an advisory committee to help draft rules governing groundwater withdrawals from the San Luis Valley's shallow aquifer. Should rules go into place, it would mark the first time groundwater withdrawals from the shallow aquifer have been regulated by the engineer's office. Earlier this year, the state Supreme Court signed off on rules regarding the confined aquifer, the deeper of the valley's two major groundwater formations.
