December 9, 2008--Suit targets drilling in refuge (Pueblo Chieftain)

Two San Luis Valley environmental groups filed a motion Thursday in U.S. District Court in Denver, requesting an injunction to bar any ground-disturbing activity at the Baca National Wildlife Refuge. In October, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service gave Toronto-based Lexam Explorations the go-ahead to drill two natural gas exploratory wells on the 92,500-acre refuge. The motion for an injunction, filed by the San Luis Valley Ecosystem Council and the Citizens for San Luis Valley Water Protection Coalition, is part of a larger legal effort by the two groups to have the court re-examine the agency's decision.
